Cheap Polynesian Cultural Center Kama'aina Special!

Kama’aina special for the Polynesian Cultural Center show, which includes a free dinner for only $25.

When I think of the Polynesian Cultural Center, I think of tourists. I never thought I would ever want to go to watch the show because we live in Hawaii and seeing a hula, Tahitian, and Polynesian dance performance is nothing new for us. Living in Hawaii many locals usually wouldn’t pay $80 to watch a show with hula performances which is in La’ie, located on the other side of the island. But when I was watching television the other day, their commercial caught my attention. This is one of the cheapest rates I seen for the Polynesian Cultural Center which is only $25 for Kama’ainas for the evening show including free dinner. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. It’s a great deal and I suggest many local people and families should go out and experience it. It’s a good special that might not come around again.

Aside from the evening show the Polynesian Cultural Center has many other attraction. They have an all you can eat Luau, IMAX Theatre, and village tours of Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, and Aotearoa, filled with many cultural activites. On a regular basis Kama’ainas only receive 20 percent off of regular retail rates, which may still add up to $60. There are also other specials they provide on their website at www.polynesia.com but aren’t as good of a steal as this one. Hope to see you folks there!

Tickets are available online at www.polynesia.com or you can call and make a reservation at (808) 293-3333. Just mention the special and that you’re a kama’aina.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon TONIGHT!

Midnight madness for the TheTwilight Saga: New Moon.

Tonight is the night! Once midnight hits, many people will be able to get a sneak peak of the movie Twilight New Moon. People will be lining up hours before midnight to guarantee their seat in the premier. The craze has been going on for months and the anticipation is roaring. Team Edward or team Jacob? The fans are split in two
between the ware wolf or the vampire. I personally am on TEAM JACOB!

The main actors/characters are Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black), and Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), who have grown very popular because of this movie. Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are now considered America’s teen heartthrobs. If you ask any teen girl about twilight, they’ll most likely be able to recognize the movie and the actors.

Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart deliver the next phase in the Twilight Saga, based on the very well known and popular novels of Stephanie Meyer. Twilight New Moon is the second part of the first movie Twilight. In the Twilight Saga, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen (the vampire) are separated, leaving Bella in her hometown of Forks, Washington. She gets closer to a childhood friend Jacob Black who just so happens to be aware wolf. Bella who now has Jacob in her life will try to get Edward but back by putting herself life in danger which instead leads to worse consequences.

The movie is PG-13 and will be shown at Ward Theatre at 12:15 a.m. If not it will be open in all theatres tomorrow.

Buddah Bar (Thai Sweet Basil)

Cheap drinking, young crowd, and happening nightclub are all found at Buddah Bar located near the UH Manoa.

Buddah Bar is making a come back! It was previously shut down, but their being brought back because of popular demand. It's conveniently located in The Manoa Market Place on the second floor, behind Safeway. It’s known as the Thai Sweet Basil restaurant in the day and nightclub by night. Fridays and Saturdays are the two days they hold the nightclub events which have become very popular amongst college students. It has become the new place to drink beside Varsity, which is also a very popular bar amongst the UH Manoa students. You would see many of your fellow college students from all different schools. Buddah Bar has also become highly favored by many of the UH athletes and has become very popular.
Every weekend they host the event, it is promoted by numerous promoters. They usually have a theme to the event such as “CEO’s and Office Pro’s” where everyone could dress in some kind of business attire or any attire to match the event theme. 18 and over are welcome and cover is free before 11 p.m. and $5 dollars after 11 p.m with free parking. Drink prices are super cheap, running at $4 Wells, $5 Cosmos-Martinis, $6 Patron and Grey Goose. Uncle Bo's

Uncle Bo’s, a favorite spot for pupu's, dinner, and drinks that is run by a bunch of 20-somethings.

Every weekend starts off at Uncle Bo’s for my friends and I. Whether we’re "pre-gaming" or having a night out with the girls, Uncle Bo's is our favorite spot. It's a popular restaurant lounge with a young energetic staff and lively environment. From the exuberant lights and uniquely designed bar, it’s definitely a great place to experience. It’s conveniently located at 559 Kapahulu Ave., one block away from the Waikiki Zoo. They open their doors at 5 p.m. and closes at 2 p.m. It’s great for families (kid friendly), dinner dates, and just to sit and have a few drinks at the bar. The dynamite shrimp, crab cakes, and the fire-seared prime rib are just a few of the popular dishes they serve. A dish that isn’t on the menu that we always order is the “Boca Rota” which I highly recommend. It’s a round of garlic bread slices, which is covered with melted mozzarella cheese, steak, and mushrooms. A good thing about Uncle Bo’s is that you can order your food as an individual plate or order everything as pupu-style where you could share with your friends, which would make prices more reasonable.
The popular part of the night which is probably the main reason my friends and I along with many other college students go there is for the lounge time. After 9 p.m. the restaurant turns into a lounge which attracts a lot of the young crowd. While you’re eating or hanging at the bar, they dim the lights along with playing music. Although prices are a little pricey, it’s affordable starting from $7-$25 depending on what you order and drinks usually range from $5-$15. An average tab for one person usually adds to $20, so it’s reasonable for dinner and a good time. After a hard week at school, homework, and work Uncle Bo’s is a great place to eat and have a good time with friends.
